Today is my last full day (for this season) at Southern Comfort RV Park in Florida City, FL.
It’s a perfect south Florida Easter morning.

When the Weatherman says the weather is “pleasant”… he’s not kidding!
My Daily Visit From Mr Cardinal…
As I write, I’m listening to a Cardinal peck at the side mirror on my van. He’s either trying to attack what he thinks is another bird or he’s trying to make out with himself.
He does this every… single…. morning!
He’s so fast that I can’t get a good picture. All I get is a blurry red blob.
The mirror is coated with bird snot, bird doo-doo and anything else that spews from his body as he slams against his reflection.
I need to be sure and clean the mirror before I leave the campground tomorrow morning so I can safely navigate the infamous Florida Turnpike.
The Campground Is Different This Year…
This year has been very different from past years.
It even feels different.
In years gone by, the place was packed with people camping in a wide variety of campers, trailers, RV’s, vans, buses, tents, etc. Some of them were winter regular’s whom I do not see here this year.
Until this year, I’ve never not had a neighbor on both sides of and across from me.

My passenger side neighbor left a few weeks ago. There are now 7 empty campsites between me and the next neighbor.

When the campsites are full, I can’t see the shower house (the blue building on the left side of the photo). But, now, the campsites across the road are pretty bare.
My driver side neighbors (husband and wife) are here until sometime in April but their side of the campground looks similar to my side.
My theories for the low attendance are:
- The campground raised it’s rates more than usual. They are making much needed improvements – I assume that’s the reason for the rate increase. Even though they raised the rates they are still very reasonable for this area of the country.
- New Florida laws were made last year that changed some people’s minds about coming to Florida. Several people told me they will no longer come to Florida due to those laws.
- It could just be one of those unusually slow year’s.
Whatever the reason, it’s been nice and peaceful here the past 2 or 3 weeks. The pleasant weather makes it all the more enjoyable!
Happy Easter!
I’m writing this on a Holiday so, if you read this today… Happy Easter!
If you read this at a later date… I hope you had a Happy Easter!
If you don’t celebrate Easter… I hope you have a great day!
Parting Thoughts…
Nikki and Misael are working today but I’ll stop in to see them before I leave tomorrow.
My Easter eating festivities include having chocolate chip cookies and coffee for breakfast instead of my usual options. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do!
I’ll probably have some hard boiled eggs and fruit for lunch.
For supper, I already have some of my beloved sweet potatoes baking in the oven!
Tomorrow, I start heading north.
It’s always sad leaving south Florida. On the other hand, the impending rise in Florida heat and humidity is enough to snuff out some of that sadness.

Responses to “Hoppin’ Outta Here Soon – Reflecting On Easter And Leaving The Campground”
The campground looks nice. I wonder which Florida laws you are talking about. The reason for the drop off could be a combination of reasons. In any case, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Easter, and safe travels to you tomorrow. That’s when we leave, too.

I agree it’s probably a combination of factors. I don’t remember all the Florida laws that were passed last year. It seems there were quite a few all in a short period of time and some people (both online and a few I know in person) had issues with the laws and said they won’t be coming here ๐คทโโ๏ธ Safe travels! ๐

I was going to ask you about the laws but see that Betty beat me to it. HAHA That campground looks very nice and I am glad you are/were able to stay there. Your meals for Easter sound very yummy.

In my experience, it’s a good campground. This year, they’ve been doing a lot of updates, so it should only get better ๐
