I left Florida City, FL almost 2 weeks ago. I’m currently in southern Illinois and can certainly tell it’s springtime!
As I write, it’s a pleasantly crisp morning here in Benton, Illinois.
I’ve Been Procrastinating…
One part of van life that I do not like is doing laundry.
If I could go to a laundromat it wouldn’t be such a chore… but that’s not an option.
In my opinion, van life laundry is a task worthy of procrastination – until it becomes an absolute necessity.
I keep a full outfit of clean clothes in an air-tight bag… in the back, under my bed, out of quick reach… just in case I procrastinate past the point of no return!
Related Post: My Doing Laundry Without Electricity – Van RV Life post explains why I can’t go to a laundromat and shares how I used to do laundry without electricity (I was mostly off-the-grid back then). Now that I’m plugged in most of the time, I wish I had room in the van for a mini-washing machine.
After getting some much needed laundry done… I head outside and take a walk by the pond that sits directly in back of my campsite.
Morning Campsite Views…
My first view is a bird sitting in a thickly budding tree in my campsite.
Walking towards the pond, as I approach the tree, the bird flies away.
Having just spent 4 months in south Florida, I have a little apprehension about getting too close to the water’s edge.
Once I realize I’m in southern Illinois… and there should be no alligators in this pond… I approach the shore.
The reflections in the pond are admirable, the lily pads add an elegant touch, and the sounds of nature balance out the entire scene.
In the distance sits a lonely boat dock. At it’s side, a couple of boats patiently wait for their next adventure.
To the right, tall brown grass merges with the color of spring.
Pausing For Serenity…
After a short walk… I sit at the picnic table, breathing in the crisp air, gazing over the landscape, and enjoying the peacefulness of the morning.
Back Inside The Van…
I no sooner sit in my chair (the backwards facing passenger seat of the van) when, out the window, I see something lurking behind the tall brown grass.
I watch a long legged bird methodically search for it’s breakfast as it slowly saunters through the water.
A short while later, I notice a Cardinal playing amongst the tall grass.
It seems there’s at least one Cardinal everywhere I go.
Parting Thoughts…
The featured photo (at the top of the post) is a freestanding porch-swing at my campsite. All campsites along this side of the pond have their own swing overlooking the pond.
Whenever I take this route, the Benton KOA Journey is one of my favorite stops. I always get a back-in spot overlooking the pond.
